PAGD’s continuing education programs are designed meet dentists’ need to stay current in the latest in the field.
PEAK
The cornerstone of PAGD’s continuing education program is call PEAK. This nationally-recognized program was established in 1986 to help members achieve their Fellowship and Mastership awards from the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) in a four year cycle. Through two four-day sessions a year, you can earn nearly 400 of the participation hours required for the next level of accreditation. In less than one year, you’ll earn the necessary credits for full state licensure.
PEAKLite
PEAKLite courses are one-day seminars designed for dentists and staff that are interested in continuing education courses, but may not be on the Master-track. These courses are held approximately six times a year on different topics in different areas of the state. PEAKLite is a great way to get introduced to the quality continuing education PAGD has to offer.
What are Fellowship and Mastership?
A dentist who has received their Fellowship offers his or her patients cutting-edge care. They have to complete 500 hours of continuing education in various disciplines and then pass a rigorous examination. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it to make sure my patients are getting the best possible care available. Only 7 percent of general dentists receive their FAGD.
In attaining Mastership, awardees meet the highest criteria for professional excellence by taking 1,100 hours of continuing dental education in the 16 disciplines of dentistry, including 400 hours dedicated to practicing "hands-on" skills and techniques. To date, 152 dentists have received Mastership honors in Pennsylvania.
By taking this commitment of achieving Fellowship and Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry, it separates those statistically into the top 35% of practices nationally in both production and in quality of care. All of us and all of these awardees should be proud of your achievements and of your commitments to excellence.
